x% Ballistol 90% water.  That's all.  Zero better.  Let the bore soak for 20-30 minutes, run ane patch, y'all're GTG.

Note that True Black Powder (i.east. Shutzen, Goex, Grafs, Elephant, Swiss, Kiks) are not corrosive in, and of themselves.  Black pulverisation balance is Hydroscopic, so it will blot water from the atmosphere and that water volition afterwards cause corrosion.  But the residue of shooting blackness pulverization does not cause any corrosion issues if cleaned inside days of shooting.

But, the "substitute" powders (i.eastward. Pyrodex, Triple-Seven, Clean-Shot, etc.) practise produce corrosive by-products and, therefore, must be cleaned immediately after use (aforementioned day or next day).

Don't clean blackness powder with a bore snake as the serpent will be filthy after one pass.  Employ patches and Ballistol/water.

The toggle action of the 1876 Winchester is easily disassembled for cleaning and is, therefore, the best selection for BPCR large-bore lever rifles.  I use a toothbrush with a wet patch to clean the mortise and elevator.  Keep the bolt face up clean -- q-tip and B/W.  Pay detail attention to fouling build-upwards on the extractor hook.

In all your cleaning and maintenance, employ But Constructed OILS AND GREASE.  Later you make clean the bore with West/B, coat it with a synthetic oil (Mobil-one) or straight Ballistol (100%).  Practise non employ petroleum based lubricants in the action.  Oft, a new burglarize comes soaked in petroleum lubricants.  Every single bit of this must exist removed from the rifle before firing it with blackness powder.  A hard, encrusted fouling will consequence from any petroleum product being left in the barrel when firing black powder.  This is where most new guys get in serious trouble when switching to black powder.  Like most of us, yous'll probably find the gun is easier to clean on the second and third cleanings equally all the remnants of petroleum are finally removed from the gun.  Apply LOTS of isopropanol  in cleaning the gun when you get it.  The bore has pores and will hold lubricants.  That rest must be eliminated before coating the bore with Ballistol in grooming for get-go-use.

Remember, the water  does the work of cleaning.  Not elbow grease.  Not chemicals.  Simply Water.  Let information technology soak.
